Colour Ringed Red Knot from the NL and possibly Denmark, December 09
Had another sitting at the feeding area yesterday, a little slow compared to Monday with only around 900 birds flocking in the sky and around 600 coming in to the feeding area. The Knot seemed to keep their distance today. I was lucky enough to locate 3 Colour Ringed Birds, details below: I have sent the details off to the Netherlands, however, I received an interesting reply and that is that Knot 1 and possibly Knot 3 are not birds ringed in the Netherlands but presumed to be part of a project in Denmark. I have emailed the guy in Denmark and now await a reply. If this is the case this will now be Knot ringed in the Netherlands, Norway and Denmark wintering in the area of Leigh Sands, Thames Estuary.
Knot 1:
Yellow Colour ring over Green colour ring, left leg
Blue colour ring (over tarsus) over White Colour ring over red colour ring right leg
Knot 2:
Red colour ring over Green Flag over red colour ring, left leg
Green colour ring over yellow colour ring, Right leg
Knot 3:
Orange colour ring over green colour ring, left leg
Yellow colour ring over red colour ring, right leg
Details (received from Bernard from NL)of Knot 2, originally ringed on Texel Island, Netherlands.

Something Different, December 09
Time for "Something different" I thought we could all do with a laugh and what better than an all time "Comedy Classic". Just wanted to break up the monotinous reports of Knot and Colour/Flag ringed birds. Hope you enjoy it. Also have a nice little Christmas treat for you all nearer the festive season, "watch this blog"for details.
November Highlights 09
What a wet month that was, it was the wettest November ever on Record. Not a great deal to report for this month but a few surprises none the less.
A Bonxie watched harassing Oystercatchers in the morning was a most welcome surprise as seen from the home, living room window! whist having a cup of tea with Steve on the 13th.
Also a Great White Egret was a most unexpected but appreciated bird as it flew east passed the window less than 2 hours after the Bonxie leaving Steve and myself in a some-what stunned state, also on the 13th.
The Knot season got well and truly under way as the month began to close with an estimated 1800+ birds in this part of the estuary including a new Norwegian Flag ringed Bird on the 28th.
A brief wander over Canvey flood failed to produce any Jack Snipe but 6 Snipe and a female Marsh Harrier was worth seeing whilst out getting some fresh air on the 29th.
3 new Colour Ringed Knot, presumed apart of the Dutch ringing programme were an added and most appreciated bonus on the 30th.
A new Candian Ringed Turnstone and the relocation on the Dutch ringed bird (CCV) was much appreciated local news from Johannes Kamp,5 Spoon Billed Sandpiper's in the area of Ban Pak Thale, Gulf of Thailand was also good hear about via text.
And Finally: "Azores the Movie" broke the 1100 views this month on the Wader World you-tube channel giving the impression that it was worth putting together.
