Long Billed Dowitcher (photo library) Version 2

This is version 2 of the Long Billed Dowitcher photographic Library. Image above and below shows 2 long billed dowitchers present at Anadyr Marsh, Chucotka, Russia 21st May 2011. These birds were part of a flock of around 40 birds feeding. This day witnessed at least 400 birds recorded flying in to and over the area.

Image above shows the coal river marsh at Anadyr on the 20th May 2011. As visible in the photo above this date witnessed a heavy amount of fresh snow fall to the area. It was this snow fall that I suspect grounded the migrating birds in the 2 images below.

The 4 video clips below shows some of long billed dowitchers present in the area on the dates of 20th & 21st May 2011.

The above selection of photos were taken in the Arctic breeding grounds of Cape Krusenstern national monument, Kotzebue, Alaska, June 2010. This was a pair which remained together throughout the duration of my stay. They was heard in a display song two times throughout the survey period but no nest was ever found.

The above and below video clips were also taken at the s

The un-sharp focusing making the lens zoom in and out this was because this footage was taken at 02:00hrs and in a rather dim arctic light.

The photo and video footage below is of a smart Juvenile bird taken at Cabo da Praia quarry, Terceira, Azores, September 2009.
