2011 off to a Good Start !

Met up with Dave today and we hit the point together, best bits from the Point were: 3 Snow Buntings which flew over at 09:16, 2 RB Mergs & a male Peregrine. After that I went to Vange Wick on my own where another Snow Bunting, this time on the deck was a treat (see poor photo below) 9 Ruff, 1 Greensand, 177 Lapwing, (which is a good count) & a Spotted Redshank were all new waders for the day/year.
Next and final stop was Vange Marsh where, as I was walking the abstraction ditch and fresh water edges trying to push up a Jack Snipe when I bumped into Andy Cox where I was greeted with the words "You just missed a Bittern by 2 minutes" I was not going to settle for that so once Andy showed me where the bird went down, I walked around the back of the area when the bird flushed up and flew up, it then circled out over the main area of marsh and returned to the near enough exact same spot. Job done! result and first for Vange. Also I am going to carry out a Wader year list this year and the day ended on 15 species and a cracking Bittern,

Waders of 2011: Oystercatcher, Bar tailed Godwit, Black tailed Godwit, Curlew, Red Knot, Grey Plover, Ringed Plover, Dunlin, Sanderling, Redshank, Turnstone, Greensandpiper, Lapwing, Ruff, Spotted Redshank.
