Adult Caspian Gull steals the show...

A 7.30 start on site today and the North Thames Gull Ringing team was on site with around 15 peaple present including Adam, of course the early conversations were all about the Slaty Backed Gull from last week and where it is now ? as the team set up Steve, Adam and myself got settled in the Land Rover watching the "White out" of Gulls in the tipping area. An early morning 1st Winter Caspian Gull was appreciated ( 2 photo's below)
Med Gulls were present today with at least 4 adults and 2 1st winters including the adult below.
The 3 photos above show you the catching area after the cannons had been fired and the Gulls were trapped before and during extraction (recognise anyone ?) photo below shows an adult GBB Gull, requiring 2 people to be able to get this photo.
The above & Below photo shows a 2nd winter GBB Gull which was originally trapped and ringed in Norway as the per the ring details below.
The ringing group carried out 2 catches, processed all the birds and were gone by 14:00hrs, then Steve and Myself remained on site until just on 16:30. The Gulls were restless today and just as we were about to give up and head off ourselves this cracking adult winter Caspian Gull revealed itself allowing these photos below. A rather pale eyed individual but also very confiding bird allowing close prolonged views.
After this bird flew off we decided to call it a day, I must say it was a good day and being nvolved with the North Thames Gull Group was an added bonus, for anyone wishing to join in and participate with group then click on the link: http://www.ntgg.org.uk/index.shtml
