Russia (Day 56) Meino

Well day 56 in the big brother russian house involed Pavel and Igor moving in and as they were doing this I just couldn't help but think of Davina Macall outside and hearing those words: who stay's - who goes you decide! and hearing that classic Paul Olkenfold beat blast through the village . Today began with a grey, windy and rainy start. After breakfast I checked my emails and then went t0 the shop to get some supplies. I almost collapsed in the shop as the woman who works there told me I had just purchased the last few packets of cigarettes and there was no more supplies to arrive for a long time. I had to check when I got back to the base just how many days I had remaining and realised I am going to have to cut down if I am to get through! this is going to be interesting to say the least (watch this space). Then after lunch I took a stroll out to check up on one of the spoon billed sandpiper sites. I enjoyed at least 5 hours on site watching a male (photo above) and I just enjoyed sitting there on the tundra watching the behaivour of this individual. I made it back just in time for dinner as I am really trying to make an effort not to be late as I always seem to still be out in the field or pre-occupied with other things around this time of day. After dinner I grabbed the quad bike and rode out to the spit just west of the village where I stumbled upon a pair of ringed plover's and this single 4-5 day old chick (photo below) why do wader chicks look just so cool ? answer: Because they are wader chicks. Thats pretty much it for today but I must say it was a good day and I really enjoyed my time on the tundra just sharing the afternoon hours watching a cracking and brightly plumaged spoon billed sandpiper.
