This morning after breakfast I headed out to check up on one of the spoon billed sandpiper sites where a single bird showed well enough amid the very windy conditions. On route to the site I bumped in to Pavel & Igor who were ringing mongolian plover's (photo above & below of a male)
After this I headed along the third river to the bridge near the lake and had a quick look around here but bar a few pintal and scaup it was relatively quite. Skua's appeared to be more evident today with around 9 arctic & 7 long tailed's seen patrolling the skies above.
On route along the third river and as you can see the snow still hangs on in there to the lower bluffs of the morane hills.
The water levels of the river are now very low and when we first arrived here the marsh in the photo below was not visible. After this I headed back and then after dinner I went to the school where Mia one of the local women was cutting hair and so I just had to grab this opportunity and it felt good just having a hair cut. After this I heaed back where I passed Andrea's cottage and as he was outside making mosquitie proof blinds for his cottage. I stopped and we talked and then he said "A drink maybe ? a little one ?" I don't drink Vodka as a rule but this was one of those very rare times when I did so as not to offend or seem un-appreciative. So I agreed and we sat there and had 2 shots each with a slice of lemon & cigarette and chatted for a while on the steps just outside of his cottage. Then by this time it was 22:30 and the sky was dark due to a heavy low lying cloud formation and then the rains began and so I decided to call it a night and head home. Tomorrow I will be joing Pavel again in his continued search / work on red knot (pending weather) so I am looking forward to this.
Photo below shows the seccond ATV to arrive here last week and I was using this for a few hours today. It is not a strong as the quad bile but it gets around and is nippy enough and is good for moving plant and equipment with the back panel.
