Here are a few photos from Pulua Tioman or Tioman Island. Pulau means Island in Malay as Koh means Island in Thai. This is a very beautiful tropical island. I have traveled a lot in Thailand searching for the ultimate Island / Beach and have come across a few including Koh Phi Phi, Lanta and Lipe but I really think Malaysia is on a par or even better as there are so many stunning islands in this area.
Above shows the colour of the water and the marine life is very good. I took this photo with my small Sony digi-camera from the pier where I arrived.
Turtles feature heavily around these parts and it seems that both Hawksbill and Green are the commonest with some Olive Ridleys also present. I hope I get to see Green Turtle during my stay but they have already started leaving the shallows of the reefs around the islands to head out in to deeper waters. I have seen Hawksbill in the Red Sea whilst diving, Leather backed in the waters of both the Scillies and the Azores whilst on Pelagics and Olive Ridleys Turtles in Goa, India
Not your average taxi rank is it, this is the boat taxi rank of the island and I took the boat below to save a 40 minute walk as I was pushed for time to get the return ferry back to Mersing. This is my 2nd visit to Tioman.
The island also has a small airport and the planes that come in from the mainland are similar in size to the Sky-bus of Scillies but there was a bigger plane that came in today which was more like that to the Dornier that used to fly to Corvo, Azores. I had a look around the airstrip in the hope of some migrant Wader being present but it didn't happen. Don't suppose I am going to get a Buff Breasted Sandpiper on this air-strip.
