Monsoon Rains...

Since the last post I made here the weather has dramatically changed and the full force of the Monsoon Rains have arrived. Image above and video clip shows what the weather was like on Thursday.

However, image above with the image & video clip below shows what it was like yesterday (Saturday). It was beautiful but real hot to extent where it was almost stinging the skin at times. We finished work yesterday afternoon of which we are creating a small fresh water pool / marsh in order to try and attract some birds. We have been working on this for a few days and when we made a start we made a small track by cutting back the waist high grass and using flattening boards in order for the small amount of water present to flood. This is obviously working because as we walked in the following morning we had our first bird present which came in the form of a surprising but nice Black Bittern. We finished work around 4 pm. On the walk back we decided go for a swim at long beach and then we sat there scanning out over the flat calm sea. We had 1 Green Turtle but the previous day on Friday there was at least 5 just off-shore. Also yesterday I saw my first Oriental Honey Buzzard for the island which drifted slowly over just before lunch. Other Raptors also present today included Brahminy Kites, White bellied Sea-Eagles, 3 Grey Faced Buzzard & 5 Japanese Sparrowhawk.
