Had a visit to the estuary at Mersing the other day. I managed to cover both the northern & southern beach's. Started at the northern beach where the totals were: 26 Common Greenshank, 23 Bar- tailed Godwit, 4 Grey Plover and the 6 1st summer Great Knots were still present. After this I made my way to the southern beach where it was just on high tide. I was present for just on 20 minutes when a nice mixed flock of Lesser Sandplovers, Terek Sandpipers and 6 Greater Sandplovers flew in close by. Above shows you the flock just as they arrived.
Above photo shows an adult male Lesser Sandplover which I believe to be of the race schaeferi with the photo below showing a part of the Terek Sandpiper flock. Totals for the southern beach today are as follows: Terek Sandpiper 84, Greater Sandplover 6, Lesser Sandplover c 176,
