Green Turtles@Juara.

After a few more days at Juara the last evening had arrived and so we  spent some time at the Turtle sanctuary before heading back. We had only managed to get half way when a phone call from Charlie came through advising us that a new batch of Green Turtles had just began hatching and so we changed our direction and began our return. Luckily we hadn't got that far and even more luckily was that Charlie came to pick us up on the motor-bike (3 up) Upon arrival at the sanctuary the little beauty below was just breaking through the surface of the sand.

Above and below shows you a Green Turtle hatchling. Due to the lights coming from the beach this evening this one was kept in a box overnight to be be released just prior to dawn the following morning. This is the first Green Turtle hatchling I have seen and so was a nice treat. A bit of a crowd had gathered and so it was allowed that this one single hatchling out of 131 hatchlings would be allowed to be photographed for the benefit of the visiting school party. Managed perfectly as ever by Charlie, if you want to know and see more about the Juara Turtle sanctuary and the good work they do please click on the following link: http://www.juaraturtleproject.com

A couple more photos before the time to depart had arrived. All in all Juara is where it is at in this part of the world if you want a nicely chilled beach, to get away from the crowds, meet some chilled locals,  great food all surrounded with the backdrop of some good primary forest with a winning sea and a Turtle Sanctuary, waterfall and of course the coconut bar.   If you like a bit of surfing then visit between October to February when the monsoon wind changes direction and the waves roll in with locals surfing their way through the monsoon period. There is a lot more to Juara than just a beach....
