Mugimaki Flycatcher- From the Hammock...

The other evening I finished work and walked back to the cabin, I decided to follow routine and made a cup of tea and laid out in the hammock as I do most evenings when I finish my 10 hour day. It was just on 18:20 and as I rest I noticed movement in the nearby tree which I first thought was Flycatcher like. I grabbed my bins that I always have with me when in the hammock. The bird moved again and as I got a better view of the bird, I have seen a fair few Asian Brown Flycatchers here but this time the orangey-red wash to the throat and upper-breast made me realise I was in with something better, the slaty grey-brown face and 2 wing bars  were enough to nail this individual as a Mugimaki Flycatcher. The light was fading fast and it was a grey cloudy evening which also didn't help. I grabbed my camera and managed to get the 2 poor quality record shots here which I have had to open up the light in photo-shop as it was just so dark.

Mugimaki Flycatchers do migrate through Peninsular Malaysia using the highlands and mountain ranges. There is also a record from Tioman Island, November 2009. I am pretty pleased with seeing this bird here around my living quarters. It brought back memories of dipping the humberside bird back 91 during a day of pretty much constant rain (that was a grim day). I have only seen a couple in China and so it was a welcome sighting especially from the hammock (I could do a hammock list I guess)...
