I am not going to write a lot here just a few of the hi-lights that made 2012 a special year for me. The hi-light of January had to be spending time at Miranda and seeing Wrybill on a daily basis. Seeing in the new year at Miranada, North Island, New Zealand was a very special time for me and one that won't be forgotten.
The highlight of February has to be taking part in the NWA expedition trapping and ringing lots of Waders, however ringing Great Knot and just seeing them so up close and personal has to be one the hi-lights from that amazing trip.
Painted Snipe in the hand also has to be included within this post as this was a brilliant night whilst at Anna Plains, near Broome during the NWA wader ringing expedition 2012.
The highlight of March 2012 was the 10 year anniversary for seeing Spoon Billed Sandpiper's on the wintering grounds within the Gulf of Thailand. " Keep the Faith"
April was a real busy time for me and so the highlight of May was finding my first Malaysian Plover nest that was a successful with 2 chicks seen running along the tideline in June.
June's high light was re-visiting my favourite part of the local world with a nice long break at Juara Bay - Tioman Island.
The Hi-lights of August was seeing the return passage of both Greater and Lesser Sandplovers at Mersing Estuary but seeing such fresh, pristine and obligingly close juveniles really did make the return autumn wader passage a learning curve for me, just look at the Greater above and the Lesser below to see for yourself.
Seeing juvenile Lesser Sandplovers above was a true hi-light and a new experience for me to able to see these birds so up close & personal.
December was productive in the Estuary at Mersing adding 3 new species of wader to the site for myself personally but the Far Eastern Curlew above has to take the star spot.
One last hi-light was returning to the UK to see friends & family for the Christmas period but getting out in to the Thames estuary amongst the Red Knot and other wintering waders brought the year to a nice close.
