Had a mishap and hurt my back, had to attend Mersing to seek some medical advice, couldn't get off the island due to the marine dept closing the harbour & river-mouth and not letting any boats in or out due to the adverse weather conditions and sea state at Mersing. Then hoping to return, resulted in being cancelled again due to the same reasons. I had no optics or kit with me as I just couldn't carry them or even walk to much due to the pain and I mean pain, "jeeez", back pain is not good, luckily it is just internal bruising and swelling and tissue damage only.
Late this afternoon there was a gap in the rain and I decided to take a walk down to the river mouth on the northern side of the river. I was stunned and gutted to see the view above. Just look at all the debris, this is just awful, all washed in from the sea. The rain has just fallen from the sky for 4 days continuous. The river is almost over-flowing and the speed of the water flowing out is real fast. Inland it is worse with the home of one the boatman being totally flooded out and he has had to seek temporary accomodation.
View above is looking across the river mouth to the southern beach, which is also bad and the first boat of the day allowed to enter the river - sungai at Mersing.
Locals were out searching through the mass of rubbish, which goes much further than these photos actually show, it really is rotten. Pretty sad to actually witness and as I looked I couldn't help but reflect on the waders that use this site, and it made me wonder how it will affect their roosting habits? This photos taken with the iPhone just don't show the true context of how bad things are here.

I feel sorry for anybody who has lost property and posessions etc but just look at the knock on effect - not just visually but the feeding habitat.....
